An island in the bay of Venice, inaccessible : San Clemente. Psychiatric hospital exclusively dedicated to women before transforming into a luxury hotel, the building which occupies the major part of the island, is the main inspiration of Pierre Jodlowski’s last multimedia show. Written for a singer-actress, accordion, piano/keyboard and clarinet, this project reveals an ambiguous place, a palimpsest enclosing a century of isolation and madness. The same madness is sublimated by the libretto, based on Alda Merini’s third poetry collection La Terra Santa , where the nightmare of the asylum (Merini spent many long years in the hospitals) coexists alongside a erce outburst of life and love addressed to the «other».

Composed for soprano, percussion, video and electronics, this 50 minutes show is based on La Ralentie, text by the poet Henri Michaux. On the edge of esotericism, this text explores the idea of frontiers between the inside and the outside, intimacy and emptiness.
Divided into two spaces by large panels of perforated paper, on which strange forms are shaped by the light, the stage becomes the place where two contrasting characters express themselves, watch and are searching for each other : soprano, who intertwines her speech and singing to thrust the listener into a dreamlike atmosphere; percussionist, who makes every gesture the result of a powerful and irrepressible inner life.

To conceive music in its interaction with the image, to invite the public into immersive spaces where instrumental, electronic and video sounds respond to each other. Outerspace is a multimedia project, immersive and ambulatory within the theatre itself, the audience being led to move from one space to another in a strange and electric darkness.
Conceived around the works of Pierre Jodlowski, this concert offers an immersion in the composer's universe. Mobilizing several spaces, this evening is an opportunity to browse a repertoire of chamber music works integrating electronics, multi-channel device, video and lights. The writing of the scenic space, the gestural dimension, the depth of the visual and sound fields, are all elements of an extended conception of musical making.
